a) I finally have a Star Trek icon! ETA: But only on Dreamwidth. /o\ /eta It is kind of epic! And is emblematic of my total failure to appreciate Spock properly! Sorry about that, [info - personal] iulia! His paramount importance is implicit in the unified direction of every gaze!

b) I might love @Cudlitz even more than @MishaCollins. His camwhoring is a lot more straightforward. Plus Bonus Ben! Southland style! (NB: I choose to find Mr. Cudlitz's decision to take up ten percent of any given tweet with extraneous punctuation charming. Your mileage may vary. BUT COME ON JUST LOOK AT HIM.) (This represents less than forty-eight hours of tweeting. I didn't even include the ones from stunt school in Canada.)

c) [info]kalichan made a Doctor Who vid to "This Year" by the Mountain Goats! Go! Now! Watch it twice!

Mood:man I need some new icons.

The last two words I've added to Word's spellcheck dictionary: Chickie and hypospray. Okay, and Cardassian, just now.

I didn't have to add Spock, which is kind of cool, really.

Bosco went gently into that good night this morning at the vet's. It was very difficult to part with him, but it was definitely time and the vet confirmed it. When it was over we went to Golden Spoon and toasted him with vanilla soft serve, his favorite.

He was a good dog and I really, really am going to miss him. But as a Buddhist, I also say "happy death day, Bosco!" Hope his essence goes on to something good. He was a rescue; to the best of our knowledge, he was 14.

Thanks to all for your support and good wishes.

You know, I will admit: I am not the world's most passionate George R. R. Martin fan. I'm not even in the running, given I still haven't read the fourth book. I kind of vaguely thought it was neat that there was going to be an HBO miniseries, you know, hooray genre getting on the telly (not TV, HBO, whatever) and so on.

Okay, so. I AM INVESTED NOW, OH YEAH.

Although Are there people who haven't read A Game of Thrones who might possibly care? Spoiler. )

[info]remixredux09 is open for business, with 235 stories in ... many lots of fandoms.

In particular, some awesome person remixed my LA Confidential fic Two Heroes as Two Heroes (Small Town Girl Remix), which is beautifully, painfully, all about Lynn, and I love it to tiny, tiny pieces.

I had been holding the date in mind ever since I first calculated it--sometime while I was living in Maryland; I remember that I was standing on a Metro platform while I did the mental arithmetic.

And then, of course, I totally forgot it when it actually happened. My newest niece had been born three days before, and I was already thinking ahead to our trip up north together, and as one of my professors was fond of pointing out, rembering that is an entirely different task from remembering to.

So. This is just to say, that as of (approximately) June 19, when I turned 27 years and 8 months old, I have known and been best friends with [info - personal] iulia for more than half my life. I honestly don't know what I would do without her, or who I would be.

O monks, even if you have insight that is pure and clear but you cling to it, fondle it and treasure it, depend on it and are attached to it, then you do not understand that the teaching is like a raft that carries you across the water to the farther shore but is then to be put down and not clung to.

I grew up with Mr. Cronkite in my living room, solemnly telling us about world events, especially the Vietnam War. I think of him often, wishing we had more of his gravitas these days. I always liked his voice.

I checked my fl recently and came across some good fangirl squeeing from [info]starshards and especially [info]mongoosehwrs which inspires me to do so too, so I can write some NON friends locked entries *haha*

If you don't care about fandom, don't click the cut. If you do, beware because there are heavy spoilers for recent manga chapters. If you don't care about spoilers go on ♥ you'll find Naruto/Bleach/One Piece/Bakuman and some others )

After attending Candy Day I feel more in a Lolita mood lately. It's nice to enjoy fashion, after writing my essay (is in beta right now) and thinking about my own words twice I'm more secure with how I dress myself. I think it just needed to be spoken with my own heart rather than getting the usual "it's fine, don't care about others" ...

I went to Zollamt today to pick up my new dress from Innocent World (which is my second one from the brand overall). I'm very pleased with it, the transaction got smoothly though I was a little worried because I waited for a month until I got a letter of notification. Since it's from 2007 it's shorter than the newest models - perfect from my 153cm. I have to admit that although Angelic Pretty gets a lot of my attention lately (even without owning one of the prints) I'd always choose an IW dress over an AP one....

...because... )

When I go to my train station, I come by a hair salon. On the window is a poster of a model with almost white blonde hair and blue delicate strands - it reminded me very much of the memorial cake advertisment with Amo-chan in the July Kera!. Memorial Cake may be the first print (ok I'm also after Rose Toilette and the newest - Melty Chocolate) I want to get in white because I have such a great idea for a coordinate ;___; so everytime I go to my train (daily) I'm a little emo because the poster reminds me that I'm not owning Memorial Cake yet *hahaha* ;_;

*sigh* though to look on the bright side - we have sale everywhere. And yesterday I got a super cute hoodie I was eyeing for about 4 months now and it's reduced from almost 20€ to now almost 5€. M was the last size they had and the last piece overall so I got it yesterday by impulse. The same day I bought something from H&M sale (GOSH their ribbon headbands I want them aaaaaaall) - a biiiig bag in sailor style for 9€. It has hearts inside and outside two heart mortifs. Kya *_*

Damn I fall into essay mode now if I don't look out... so...
I go now for a pizza (=w=)V

From [info]adina_atl, my very favorite meme, because it has totally been more than five minutes since I did this one and all six of my current WIPs are new since then. When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

In, uh, approximate order of seniority... Stargate SG-1, Star Trek, and Southland... )

Is it just me, or is this a kind of strangely homoerotic ad for GE Jet Engines? )

And also, who the hell is watching cable of an evening and needs to see ads for jet engines? I mean, it sorta almost made sense when I lived in DC and saw ads for particular systems of five-ton trucks and helicopters on the Metro. Arguably there were people riding the Metro who were actually involved in those decisions. But who's watching Countdown and buying vaguely gay jet engines?

I really try not to discount all "old white men" in government. I think a lot of them have something unique to offer; I just think there needs to be a much broader variety of ethnic/racial [oops, forgot gender!] types to represent society, and that Congress is severely overstocked with OWM. And not all of them are-- to coin a phrase "wise white men."

Cases in point. Supreme Court nominee Sotomayor, a self made woman who grew up in the projects, self described "affirmative action baby" who went on to graduate summa cum laude from an ivy league school, was asked the following questions:

Senator Sessions (AL): Did she think she could live on a judge's salary?

Sen. Cornin (TX): Questioned her on Dr. Martin Luther King, and did she understand discrimination (umm--a Latina from the projects)?

Sen. Coburn (OK): Quoted Desi Arnez from the old Lucille Ball show, telling Sotomayor she had some "'splainin' to do," a tv series in which women were very much second class citizens subservient to their husbands, answerable to them at the end of the day, hence the 'splainin', and occasionally spanked on camera. Not to mention an old white guy putting on a Cuban accent. Yeah.

Seriously. Time for some new blood.

Shut up, there is nothing that does not need a Center Stage AU. Brief summary of the intricately plotted film, Center Stage, for those who have not seen it and still somehow want to know what my AU casting is all about. )

Right off the bat, obviously Uhura is Eva, Kirk is Cooper Nielsen, and Spock is Maureen. (I guess, in this formulation, that makes Sarek the overbearing stage-parent.)

On second thought I am going to pretend to have some semblance of dignity and cut-tag the two different variations on Start Trek Center Stage AU casting with bonus bandom AU casting to follow. )
